Award ceremony of the winners of the international competition on the legacy of Imam Maturidi was held in Al-Azhar

On March 12, 2023, an award ceremony was held for the winners of the international contest on the legacy of Imam Maturidi among Egyptian researchers. It was held by the Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Center at the Al-Azhar conference hall.

More than 100 Uzbek and Egyptian scientists and experts, public representatives, including the vice rector of al-Azhar university Dr. Muhammad Dhuwaini, Secretary General of al-Azhar Academy of Islamic Studies Dr. Muhammad Nazir Ayyad, member of the jury Dr. Mahmoud Husayn, Advisor to the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Egypt Muzaffar Jalilov, and representatives of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, Imam Maturidi and Imam Bukhari International Scientific Research Centers participated in the event.

Speaking at the event, the vice rector of the al-Azhar, Dr. Muhammad Dhuwaini, said that the ancient history of Uzbekistan is full of golden pages, and it can be concluded that the country has a brighter future ahead of the work being done by the President of Uzbekistan to restore its heritage.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Jamaluddin Karimov, director of Imam Maturidi International Scientific Research Center, thanked Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Tayyib for his great services in the study of Imam Maturidi and Maturidiyya teachings. In his speech, he emphasized that al-Azhar University is an important scientific institution that has been training scientists for more than a thousand years on the basis of moderation and tolerance. After all, in today’s era of heightened ideological conflicts, it is clear that revealing the true essence of Islam, based on moderation and tolerance, and its widespread promotion will serve the unity and development of Muslims.

It is worth noting that this competition is dedicated to study the scientific heritage of Imam Maturidi and his followers, including the history of the formation and development of the Maturidiyya school of kalam, to intensify the scientific study of manuscript sources stored in world libraries, to promote universal humanistic values and principles of tolerance, which are covered in the teachings of Maturidiyya, and to reveal the baseless ideas of the rising destructive sects under the guise of Islam.

Valuable gifts and special diplomas were presented to the competition winners and all participants at the ceremony. Organization of a 10-day trip to Uzbekistan for the first three place winners was announced.
This event was widely covered in Egypt’s influential mass media, in particular, in publications of the al-Azhar complex. It was noted that the organization of such events serves to further develop friendship between Egypt and Uzbekistan, and to raise cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture to a new level.

In conclusion, it can be said that such events organized on an international scale play an important role in promoting the wide-scale reforms implemented in the religious and educational sphere of Uzbekistan to the world community, and in increasing the prestige of our country at the international level.
