Abu Sulayman Juzjani
(died 200/816)
Abu Sulayman Juzjani was educated by Abu Yusuf and Muhammad ibn Hasan Shaibani, famous jurists of that time. The scholar narrated the works of Abu Hanifa entitled “al-Fiqh al-akbar” and “ar-Risala ‘ala Uthman al-Batti” from these two imams. In addition, the copy of Muhammad Shaybani’s work “al-Asl” (“al-Mabsut”) narrated by him is recognized by scholars as the most reliable.
Abu Sulayman Juzjani, being extremely pious, refused Caliph Ma’mun’s offer to accept the post of judge on the pretext that he was quick-tempered. Juzjani is one of the first teachers of the “Dar al-Juzjaniyya” madrasah in Samarkamd.
Dhahabi recorded that he narrated hadith from Ibn Mubarak. Ahmad ibn Muhammad Birti, Bishr ibn Musa, Abu Khatim Razi and others narrated from Juzjani.
Abu Sulayman Juzjani won the love of people of hadith with his sincerity. According to Abu Khatim, he accused those who called the Qur’an a creature of blasphemy.
Juzjani is the author of such works as “al-Siyar al-Saghir”, “al-Salat”, “al-Rahn”, and “Nawadir al-Fatawa”.
